Innovative monitoring techniques
Effective and transparent monitoring and evaluation of projects is one of the most important elements towards successful and durable project operation and maintenance.
One of the main challenges to measure projects’ impacts is the numerous amounts of indicators, surveys and/or parameters introduced through often complex accounting approaches. Data management and monitoring before and during the project implementation is a complex undertaking. Sometimes monitoring is not only about measuring technical quantifiable parameters, but also about qualitative impact indicators that cannot be easily measured. Often the measurement campaigns comprise field survey questionnaires which is a resource intensive task.
Traditionally, field monitoring is performed manually by field officers who collect data on a sampled population. Later they feed the collected information into a central database, process them and draft a monitoring report. This is both a significant cost factor as well as a source of potential error. Today there are technological solutions available that can replace the traditional monitoring procedures and reduce time, costs and errors significantly.
